Alysia Townsend, parent of IL ABLE Account Owner Etienne contributes to IL ABLE Account to save for her son’s adult life. “I didn’t need to immediately focus on spending ABLE money around certain needs,” said Townsend in a recent interview with Chalkbeat, a nonprofit news organization covering stories about education. “I already had those needs met. As he gets older he needs more things and different things.”
Important Information for Students with IEPs
With summer heat lingering across Illinois, it is hard to believe a new school year has already begun. As students with disabilities return to the classroom to learn and build their knowledge and skills, this is a perfect time for parents and guardians to build their knowledge about their children’s financial futures. IL ABLE & IEPs
The excitement of a new school year is upon us! As students with disabilities prepare their school bags for the start of a new academic year, their parents and guardians may be thinking about how to prepare for their students’ financial futures.
IL ABLE Brochure Now Available in Spanish
The IL ABLE “Students with IEPs” brochure is now available in Spanish! Now special education staff can meet the needs of their Spanish-speaking students, parents, and guardians by sharing this version of the brochure at the student’s annual Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meeting.

Parents, guardians, and others who support students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) should be provided with the IL ABLE brochure in their student’s annual IEP meeting. Starting with this school year, schools are now required to provide IL ABLE information to students and their supporters at their annual IEP meeting.
