IL ABLE & IEPs

The excitement of a new school year is upon us! As students with disabilities prepare their school bags for the start of a new academic year, their parents and guardians may be thinking about how to prepare for their students’ financial futures.

In Illinois, all public schools are required by law to deliver IL ABLE information to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and their parents or guardians as part of the student’s annual IEP meeting. IL ABLE can be an important resource in the special needs financial planning toolbox. Families and supporters should make sure they receive the IL ABLE “Brochure for Students with IEPs” at their student’s annual IEP meeting.

It is never too early to start saving for a child’s future. Take Etienne’s parents, for example, who are helping him save for a bright, and more financially secure, future. Funds in Etienne’s IL ABLE Account can be used for a broad range of expenses, including therapy, health needs, assistive technology, recreation and so much more.
