How IL ABLE Supports Financial Independence
Since the first IL ABLE Account opened in 2017, more than 7,600 Account Owners have saved more than $96 million. The average Account balance is more than $12,000, exceeding the standard $2,000 individual resource limit for Supplemental Security Income, or SSI.
An IL ABLE Account can complement a special needs trust. Up to $19,000 may be contributed annually, and some working Account Owners may be eligible to contribute more under the federal ABLE to Work provision.
Earnings and withdrawals are tax-free when funds are used for qualified disability expenses. These expenses may include health and wellness, transportation, education, employment training, support services and other costs related to the Account Owner’s health, independence or quality of life.
