In May, Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs stopped by the Village Bakery in Oregon, IL to meet with staff, leadership, educators, and families from the community.
The Village Bakery offers more than delicious fresh-baked treats loved by locals (two thumbs up for the cinnamon rolls!). The bakery is also “baking a difference” by creating meaningful community-based work opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. The Bakery is an arm of Village of Progress, which provides impactful vocational, recreational, and social services for people with developmental disabilities in Ogle County since 1969.
The Treasurer learned about the Bakery’s mission and shared information with families and self-advocates about the IL ABLE program as an important tool in toolbox to build financial wellness for people with disabilities.
Visit the Village Bakery website, to learn more about its work and to plan a visit.
