Spotlight on how IL ABLE empowers people with disabilities
In October, which was National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs took to the road and across the airwaves to meet with people and share information about IL ABLE, a program that empowers persons with disabilities who are working to save more and maintain their public benefits.
On October 25, Treasurer Frerichs was joined by the Arc of the Quad Cities Area staff on a visit to Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Milan, IL. He met with school leadership and staff, most notably, Austin Brunk who spoke with the Treasurer about his experience working at the school. Austin is a client of the Arc of the Quad Cities Area, which helped prepare him to work with the school’s Nutrition Services.

Later, the Chicago Lighthouse’s “CRIS Radio Presents” interviewed the Treasurer in depth about IL ABLE. Radio host Sandy Murillo talked with the Treasurer about the benefits of an IL ABLE Account for working Account Owners, which includes the ability to contribute more to the Account each year.
