ABLE stands for “Achieving a Better Life Experience” and refers to savings and investment accounts that eligible individuals with disabilities can own to help pay for the qualified disability-related expenses. Illinois ABLE accounts make it possible for individuals with disabilities and their families to save and invest private funds without losing, or losing access to, federal means-tested benefits, such as SSI, SSDI and Medicaid.
